Project | The Colección de Sonidos Ambientales - Instituto Humboldt
The Colección de Sonidos Ambientales (known also as Banco de Sonidos Animales) is a digital collection at the Humboldt Institute that serves as repository of the sounds of Colombia. It began in 1997-1998 under the coordination of Mauricio Álvarez-Rebolledo, exploring many sites in the vast and biodiverse Colombia. With the help of many researchers, the collections has over 23,000 recordings, some of them duplicated in Macaulay Library since 2018. I am coordinating this collection and trying to keep the essence of Mauricio's ideal.
Project | Local biodiversity in RN y Cascada Los Tucanes
In live, family and friends are the most important. My friend Fernando Forero and his family (Pablo, Esmeralda, Liliana, MaJo, etc) established a reserve in Gachantivá, 1-hour from Villa de Leyva. Zuania, my wife and colleague helped them to positioning the reserve as a touristic site but with a research interest. We presented the site to participate in the LIFEPLAN project of the University of Helsinki, so we plan to sampling the local biodiversity there for ~5-6 years. Indeed, I helped a student to conduct a preliminary sampling effort of Passive Acoustic Monitoring in the reserve and another that work specifically with the sounds of insects there.
Proyecto | Grupo de Observadores de Aves de Leguízamo
Después de consolidar el Grupo de Observadores de Aves de Leguízamo a partir del proyecto AICAs Putumayo de CORPOAMAZONIA, quisimos iniciar un monitoreo participativo de las aves que habitan las llanuras Amazónicas de Leguízamo, en Putumayo, Colombia. Para esto incluimos la participación ciudadana (Citizen Science) de observadores de aves locales como los principales actores encargados de levantar la información de biodiversidad en sus lugares de vivienda. Este proyecto ha tenido ya tres publicaciones bajo mi liderazgo o participación (ver la sección publicaciones) y otras publicaciones por investigadores locales desde Leguízamo.
Project | Soundscape in the fragmented Amazon region of Putumayo, Colombia
Fragmentation is a worldwide known topic, which affect several aspects in biodiversity. Recently, landscape ecology has been included a new topic about the acoustic activity in the landscape, the soundscape. In this project, I want study the differences of the soundscape among a fragmented landscape in northern Amazonia, in Putumayo, Colombia. For that, I sampled the soundscape of 17 portable acoustic stations: 5 in forest patch of different size and shape, 6 in open areas-grassland used for cattle, 4 primary forests, and finally 2 urban sites in a little Amazonian town (Leguízamo)
Proyecto | Aves de Arauca
Al realizar mi trabajo de pregado en el piedmeonte del departamento de Arauca, y haber explorado también parte de las sabanas que lo componen, me encuentro interesado en aportar información sobre dos preguntas básicas en la Ecología de Comunidades ¿Cuántas y cuáles especies habitan estos lugares? Parte del trabajo ya fue iniciado y publicado en una revisión sobre las aves de la región Orinoquia de Colombia; y la miniguía fotográfica de las aves en la Sede Orinoquia de la Universidad Nacional. Los resultados del piedemonte fueron publicados en la Revista Ornitología Colombiana, además, también publiqué información sobre novedades corológicas para el departamento (Harpia harpyja y Spizaetus tyrannus).
